Councillor walks part of The Great Wall of China for charity

A Cardiff Councillor has just returned home after walking 22 miles of the Great Wall of China for charity.

Councillor Dilwar Ali and his cousin Mohammed Abdul Salam joined a group of fundraisers who decided to trek along a stretch of one of the Seven Wonders of the World in order to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s charity Cancer Research Wales.

Councillor for Llandaff North, Cllr Dilwar Ali said: “Walking along the Great Wall of China was a fantastic experience that I’ll never forget. I am delighted to say that we managed to raise £6,713.00 in sponsorship from a number of organisations and in recognition we ensured that their logos were prominently displayed on the t-shirts we wore during the trek. I even got the chance to lay a brick at the reconstruction site of the Badaling section of the wall! A huge thanks to everyone who sponsored me and it’s still not too late to donate via my just giving page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/dilwar-ali .”

The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Monica Walsh said: “I would like to thank Councillor Ali and his fellow walkers for choosing to support such a worthwhile charity whilst visiting one of the most iconic destinations on the planet. I enjoyed looking at Councillor Ali’s photos, everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves at this amazing location whilst raising a lot of money for Cancer Research Wales.”
