Cardiff is Doing IT!

Do It for Cardiff and for Wales!

Cardiff residents are doing it in the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and even in the garden - most of our residents do IT every day and IT is now a BIG part of our lives.

Recycling has now firmly become part of our daily household routine and IT is here to stay - As a nation, Wales is very good at IT and currently has an overall recycling rate of 63%, placing us as one the best recycling nations.

Everyone's Doing ITis the recycling campaign for SIX local authorities based in South East Wales. Supported and funded by the Welsh Government and adopted locally by each of the partnered local authorities.

As a nation we must continue to build on Wales' success and recycle more, Cardiff Council has joined forces with Blaenau Gwent, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Caerphilly and the Vale of Glamorgan to come together to highlight that recycling has no boundaries and even though we may all do IT a bit differently -Everyone's Doing ITfrom Llandrindod Wells to Cardiff, people are DOING IT! It's time toSTOP.THINK.RECYCLE.

The campaign aims to make consumersSTOP, THINK and RECYCLEas much as they can and now that more and more people across Wales are choosing to RECYCLE, it highlights thatEveryone's Doing IT- and if you're not, why not? It also looks to make consumers think twice about how much they recycle and how they can improve at home, on the move, abroad and even when they are watching their favourite team -Stop. Think. Recycle. There is always time toSTOP. THINK. and RECYCLE

Across Wales, shoppers are doing IT, football fans are doing IT, travellers are doing IT and even movie buffs are doing it! Messages have been placed in key locations across South East Wales in a bid to remind and reinforce the need to recycle wherever you are, whatever you're doing.

Each Local Authority must hit the Welsh Government recycling target of 70% by 2024/25. Those who fail to meet this target will face large fines that will need to be passed on to its residents.

In addition to the promotional campaign a number of households are being monitored in Cardiff to see how they currently recycle and what they need to help them improve. Cardiff Council Awareness Officers will be visiting these households to offer advice and support where necessary, to help them recycle as much as they possibly can.

Cabinet Member for Clean Streets, Recycling and Environment, Cllr Michael Michael said: "Here in Cardiff we have a proud history when it comes to recycling. We are Britain's leading major city for recycling, with recycling and composting rates having increased from 4% to 58% over the last 15 years. A fantastic achievement by the residents of the city. That's why Cardiff Council is pleased to join forces with local government colleagues from other areas and support theEveryone's Doing ITCampaign. It's important that we don't become complacent about recycling and continue to look at new ways of increasing recycling rates."
