License holder of WOW Bar fined £2,000

Action was taken against WOW Bar following a significant number of complaints about loud amplified music and singing, both late at night and into the early hours of the morning.

Mrs Roffi, Personal and License Holder of Wow Bar in Churchill Way, Cardiff, didn't attend Cardiff Magistrates' Court last Friday (May 10th) and was fined £2,000 in her absence for two offences of breaching a noise abatement notice.

Legal action was taken against WOW Bar, following numerous complaints dating back to July last year.

Officers from the Shared Regulatory Service visited the venue a number of times to try to resolve the problem, but the complaints continued so there was no other option other than to take legal action.

Cllr Michael Michael, Cabinet Member responsible for Shared Regulatory Services at Cardiff Council said: "The Council has a statutory duty to investigate noise complaints and we ask all licensed premises to work with the council when complaints are received.

"In many cases, we agree with the venue on the level of amplified music which is acceptable late at night and in some cases, we have actually insisted that the venue fits a noise limiter to the PA system.

"In this case, if we continue to receive complaints, then we will have to investigate them further. We will take further legal action, if it is required."

Mrs Roffi was fined £2,000, ordered to pay costs of £850 and a victim surcharge of £100.
