Travel Advice for Urdd in Cardiff Bay


The Urdd National Eisteddfod takes place in Cardiff Bay from 27 May - 1 June. 

Around 90,000 visitors are expected to visit the festival over the course of the week to enjoy the competitions, stalls and family activities taking place in Roald Dahl Plass.

In order for the event to take place safely road closures and a contraflow system will be in place on Lloyd George Avenue, around the Flourish, from 8pm on Friday 24thMay until approximately 6pm on Sunday 2ndJune.

Bute Place will also be closed between its junctions with Pierhead Street and Lloyd George Avenue.

Access through the Bay will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists however in some cases there may be small diversions in place for the duration of the event.

There are no specific car parking facilities for the Eisteddfod site and visitors are encouraged to use public transport, cycle or walk to the event whenever possible.

TRAINS:

 

Trains run every 12 minutes from Queen Street station to Cardiff Bay train station, which is within easy walking distance of the Eisteddfod Maes.  Full details and timetables are available on the Transport for Wales website:https://tfwrail.wales/urdd-eisteddfod-2019

 

BUSES:

 

The Cardiff Bay bus stop outside Wales Milennium Centre will be closed for the duration of the event.  All Stagecoach bus services will divert off Lloyd George Avenue, past County Hall and use the bus stop outside the Travelodge Hotel on Hemmingway Road facing towards the west.

Cardiff Bus provide a number of services from the City to Cardiff Bay including:

6 - Cardiff Bay, Central Station, Queen's Street Station, Cathays Park (about every 10 minutes)

8 - Cardiff Bay, Dumfries Place, Crwys Street, Heath Hospital
