Thornhill Crematorium and Cemetery picked up a coveted Cemetery of the Year award for the second time, having previously scooped the honour in 2016.

The wider Bereavement Services team have also been named Best Service Team of the Year in the Cemetery and Crematorium category at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Service Awards.

The annual APSE awards celebrate the very best in local government frontline services across the UK. The Bereavement Services team last won this category 3 years ago.

Cabinet Member with responsibility for Bereavement Services, Cllr Michael Michael, said: “I know the Bereavement Services team take great pride in working for Cardiff, and providing the best possible service at what can be an incredibly difficult time in people’s lives.

“Winning these two awards is fantastic recognition for their commitment and hard-work and demonstrates that, despite the ongoing financial pressures facing local authorities across the UK, we continue to deliver quality services to the people of Cardiff.”
