Remembrance Week events at Cardiff Hubs


A week of events to provide information and support to serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families will be held in hubs across the city next week.

 

To coincide with the annual Remembrance events and kicking off on Armistice Day itself,  Central Library Hub will host an event to raise awareness of the services on offer in the city to help both current and formerservicemen and women with matters likeemployment, housing, mental health support and more.

 

The event on Monday November 11 (10am - 2pm) will bring together several organisations and charities, including the British Legion, Help for Heroes and Change Step, as well as showcasing Council services such as the Money Advice Team, Into Work services and Housing Options.

 

A council spokesperson said; "As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, the Council is committed to helping residents who are part of the Armed Forces community to access our services in the city, including the support specifically on offer for current or ex-services individuals and their families.

 

"Our community hubs can offer specialist advice for veterans, current personnel and their families and we have aveteran advice mentor to help people access the services and help they need. This week of themed events will be an excellent opportunity for people to find out about services available around the city."

 

Following the launch event at Central Library Hub, themed-events will be held in community hubs across the city to provide more specific support to individuals, starting with a help into employment workshops at Grangetown Hub on Tuesday, November 12 (10am - 2pm).

 

The Powerhouse Hub, Llanedeyrn is holding a reminiscence-themed session on Wednesday, November 13, including a performance from the Firing Line Museum (11.30am - 12.30pm) and an opportunity to find out more about the resources on offer at Cathays Branch and Heritage Library over coffee and cake (12.30- 1.30pm).

 

On Thursday, November 14, Llanrumney Hub will be holding events for children and families including poppy making, cookie decorating and a poppy picnic (10am - 1pm) before soldiers share their stories at the hub from 1 -2pm.

 

The week's activities come to a conclusion on Friday, November 15 at Ely and Caerau Hub where the focus will be on physical and mental wellbeing of personnel and their families, with a chance to try tai chi, yoga and mindfulness in a series of taster sessions.

 

Change Step Wales,a peer mentoring and advice service delivered by veterans for veterans,also hold regular drop-in session for veterans, families and carers on Fridays in Ely and Caerau Hub, 10am - 3pm.
