Pet poop in our recycling

13.03.2020

Our Pink Sticker scheme launched last week and just over 4,000 incidents of contaminated green bags or compost bins were found.

The three main culprits are:

  • Nappies
  • Textiles
  • Food waste

However, our crews have also encountered some animal faeces with the recycling waste.

Pet waste should go in your black bin or striped bag.

Dog poo can also be disposed of in any available litter bin, it doesn't need to be placed in a dog fouling bin only.

Dog owners and their dogs are encouraged to sign up to become local champions of our Leave Only Pawprints campaign - a non-confrontational, friendly way to change attitudes and behaviours around dog fouling.

Local champions carry extra bags so if another dog owner doesn't have one they can ask a Champion. They can be recognised by small ‘Leave Only Pawprints' badges that they and their dogs can wear.

If you're unsure if an item can go in your green recycling bag, please check on our  Recycling A-Z before you throw.
