New walk-through testing site to open in Cardiff

A walk-through COVID-19 testing facility is to open in Cardiff city centre.

The new facility, based on Museum Avenue, will provide easy access to testing for those living in surrounding residential areas, including the city's student population.

Construction of the Local Testing Site begins today (14 October) and the testing site is due to be open to the public from Saturday 17 October.

Fiona Kinghorn, Executive Director for Public Health for Cardiff and the Vale, said: "It is vitally important that anyone who is showing symptoms of coronavirus book themselves a test. This is how we can stop the spread of the virus.

"In Cardiff and the Vale we have one of the most effective Test, Trace, Protect programmes in the country and this new facility will further bolster our local capacity to stop the spread of the virus."

The site is one of a number opening in Welsh University towns and cities this month as part of a national strategy to increase testing capacity.

The Museum Avenue testing unit is a walk-through site. It will operate from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. Tests can be booked in the normal way by calling 119 or online at:
gov.wales/coronavirus

Testing will only be available for those with coronavirus symptoms - a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste.
