Here is the latest update from Cardiff Council, covering: new Hubs Events website launched; Cardiff COVID-19 cases and tests, last seven days data; school caretaker retiring after 22 years; Welsh Museums Festival online half term activities;and RSPCA PawPrints for Cardiff Dogs Home.
New Hubs Events website launched
A brand new website featuring all of the events taking place across all of Cardiff's Hubs has been launched.
Due to the current restrictions all Hubs events are online for the time being, with events usually taking place on Microsoft Teams or Facebook. All Hubs events are free to attend and include things like:
- Bilingual bookstart
- Meet Up Monday Online
- Free Online Circus Workshop
- Keep On Moving
- Goldies Cymru
- Story Time
- Wellbeing Wednesday
- Story and Rhyme Time
- The Social Hour
- And lots of other craft and seasonal events
The new resource also has information about all the Hubs in Cardiff, such as Advice Services, Adult Learning Cardiff, Into Work Advice and Library Services, as well as contact details.

School caretaker retiring after 22 years
Bryn Davies, the caretaker of Rumney Primary School, is retiring after 22 years at the school.
Bryn started his role back in 1998 as caretaker of the then two schools, Rumney Infants & Nursery School and Rumney Junior School. He saw the schools merge into one and the completion of the building work joining the schools with the long corridor.
Mr Davies has seen lots of changes over the years and has always been ready to respond to any challenges including the school being used as a Keyworker Childcare Hub during lockdown. He was due to retire just as lockdown happened but would not retire until the children and staff could return to school safely. Bryn joined in the many staff wellbeing lip sync videos made during the spring lockdown to entertain staff and pupils, including his wheelbarrow ride in his new wheelbarrow!
Head teacher Ms Williams said, "No more early chats about football, tennis or TV! No more chats about soap, toilet rolls, icy paths, leaking windows etc. Nothing is ever too much trouble and sorted so quickly. Bryn has been such an incredible support and shown such tremendous commitment and dedication to the whole school community. Enjoy the new world of free time!"
School Administrator Mrs Perkins said, "Bryn is not only an amazing caretaker but he is such a lovely, kind, caring person. I don't think the word ‘no' exists in his vocabulary. When it comes to jobs and times, on many a Friday he is so patient when ‘I'll be 10 minutes' turns into much longer. Bryn will be hugely missed in Rumney Primary."
Year six pupils said, "Thank you for being in our school for so long. There will be no other caretaker like you."
We all wish Mr Davies the very best on his retirement.
Welsh Museums Festival - Online half term activities
Despite lockdown, Welsh Museums Festival is gearing up to help you enjoy a #HistoricHalfTerm this October.
In collaboration with storyteller Cath Little and artist Chris House, Museum of Cardiff will be celebrating the festival with the launch of a brand new, online storytelling film and activity, which will be available on the museum website for families to do together:
‘There's a Museum in my Kitchen', is an illustrated video exploring how everyday objects can inspire us to tell fantastic stories.
Welsh Museums Festival runs from 24 October - 1 November this year with a blend of online events for all ages and many are FREE.

Two RSPCA PawPrints for Cardiff Dogs Home
Cardiff Dogs Home has received two RSPCA PawPrints awards - a Gold award in the Stray Dogs category and a Silver award in the Kennelled Dogs category.
The awards have been made in recognition of the fact the standard of kennelling provided by the Dogs Home, and the way they look after stray dogs, exceeds basic and statutory service requirements. The service is supported by local charity ‘The Rescue Hotel' which raises funds to provide additional services such as qualified behaviourists for dogs awaiting rehoming.
To adapt to the challenges posed by Covid-19 the Dogs Home has made a number of changes which have further improved animal welfare. The changes include the introduction of a successful new fostering scheme, and a visitor appointment system which has enabled staff to spend more one-to-one time with the dogs.
