The first of two new COVID-19 test centres opened in Cardiff today

Cardiff opened a new COVID-19 test centre today, the first of two that are opening in the city this week.

Capacity at Cardiff's existing centres is also increasing to provide an extra two thousand test slots per week, following the sudden rise in COVID-19 infections across the city.

The Welsh capital has seen infection rates grow by 90% over the past week to reach the highest levels yet in the city, and with the positivity rate at 18% it's clear the virus is spreading through the community making it extremely difficult to contain.

Whilst the number of cases amongst the over 60s in the Cardiff & Vale Health Board area has more than doubled in three weeks, fast approaching 400 per 100,000 population.

If you are showing any of these symptoms - new and persistent cough; a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste; a high temperature - book a test now and self-isolate.

To get a test book online at  gov.wales/get-coronavirus-test  or call simply call 119.

A self-isolation support payment is also available for those who meet the criteria. Read more here:
