Sports pitch boost for Splott
11/10/22

Work is due to commence on the construction of a new 3G football pitch in Splott Park.

The project is being funded by the Council’s Neighbourhood Renewal Schemes Programme and was proposed by local members in the area to provide a year-round facility for use by the local community.

Managed by Splott Albion Football Club, the pitch will be a new synthetic all-weather surface with 5m high perimeter fencing, floodlighting and secure access which, once complete, will be available to use at no cost for local junior football clubs, as well as for private hire by other sports teams.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said: “Our Neighbourhood Renewal Schemes Programme helps enhance neighbourhoods across the city by delivering facilities or improvements that create better places for people to live work and play.   This new 3G pitch at Splott Park is  a great example and will be a real asset for local clubs when it’s completed by transforming what’s there now – an under-used basketball play area.”

Work is due to start on the scheme on Monday, October 17 and is expected to take around 16 weeks. Access to the path alongside the bowling green and existing basketball area will be restricted during the construction period, however, full access to the skate park and the MUGA will be maintained.

The Council and principal contractor, Centregreat, will endeavour to minimise disruption to the local community for the duration of the works.
