Taking place on Wednesday,
August 6, from 1–4pm, this free, family-friendly event promises to be an
afternoon packed with creative, and active play for children and young people
of all ages.
This
year’s theme, Spaces for Play, celebrates the importance of accessible,
inclusive places where children can play freely, connect with friends, and feel
part of their community.
Organised
by the Council’s Play Services team within Children’s Services in partnership
with other council departments and community organisations, the event is a
highlight of the summer calendar.
Activities
at the event include mud play, badge making, T-shirt printing, bubbles, garden
games, sports, samba drumming, circus skills and various arts and crafts.
Partners
including South Wales Police, Menter Caerdydd, Cardiff Youth Services, Foster
Wales Cardiff and many more will be there to offer activities and share
information about their services.
Cllr
Peter Bradbury, Cabinet Member for Tackling Poverty & Supporting Young
People, said: “We’re counting down the days now to National Play Day – one of
the highlights of our summer events. It’s all about giving children the freedom
to explore, create, and just be kids. It’s a celebration of imagination,
friendship, and fun - so grab your sun hats and bring your sense of adventure.
“We’re
looking forward to welcoming families from across the city to Eastern Leisure
Centre playing fields next week.”
Families
are encouraged to use active travel—walking, cycling, or public transport—to
get to the event and help support a cleaner, greener Cardiff. The venue is
easily accessible via local walking and cycling routes, and bike parking will
be available on site. For public transport options, visit Traveline
